証券口座とは、株式などの金融商品を売買するための専用口座です。銀行口座がお金の出し入れに使うものであるように、証券口座は株の売買や管理に使うものとイメージしていただくとわかりやすいでしょう。
証券口座は証券会社に申し込んで開設します。近年はオンライン（ネット証券）で完結できるサービスが充実しており、最短数日で開設できます。
証券口座の種類
証券口座には、税金の管理方法によって3種類あります。
① 一般口座
自分で年間の損益を計算し、確定申告を行う必要がある口座です。手間がかかるため、初心者にはあまりおすすめしません。
② 特定口座（源泉徴収なし）
証券会社が年間の損益を計算してくれますが、確定申告は自分で行う必要があります。
③ 特定口座（源泉徴収あり）
証券会社が損益の計算も税金の納付も自動で行ってくれる口座です。確定申告が不要なため、初心者の方にもっともおすすめの口座です。
NISA口座も一緒に開設しよう
証券口座と合わせて、ぜひNISA口座も開設することをおすすめします。
NISA口座を使うと、株式投資で得た利益や配当金が非課税になります。通常、投資の利益には約20%の税金がかかりますが、NISA口座内での運用であればこの税金がかかりません。
筆者メモ 私自身も2年前に新NISAをきっかけに個別株投資を本格的にスタートしました。NISA口座と特定口座を併用しながら、日本の個別銘柄を毎日少しずつ購入しています。特にNISA口座での配当金は非課税で受け取れるため、長期的な配当収入の積み上げに大変有利だと実感しています。

手数料が安いか
株の売買には手数料がかかります。特にネット証券は手数料が低く設定されていることが多く、初心者にも使いやすいです。
取扱銘柄が豊富か
日本株だけでなく、将来的に米国株なども検討する場合は、取扱銘柄の多さも確認しておきましょう。
アプリや画面が使いやすいか
毎日使うツールなので、スマートフォンアプリの使いやすさも重要なポイントです。

口座開設の流れ
証券口座の開設はオンラインで完結できます。一般的な流れは以下のとおりです。
STEP 1｜証券会社を選ぶ
複数の証券会社を比較し、自分に合ったところを選びましょう。
STEP 2｜申し込みフォームに入力する
氏名・住所・生年月日などの基本情報を入力します。
STEP 3｜本人確認書類を提出する
マイナンバーカードや運転免許証などを提出します。スマートフォンで写真を撮って送るだけで完了する場合がほとんどです。
STEP 4｜審査・口座開設完了
審査が通れば口座開設完了の通知が届きます。最短で数日、通常は1〜2週間ほどかかります。
STEP 5｜入金して取引開始
証券口座に資金を入金すれば、いよいよ株の購入ができるようになります。
